My Story

My story began in 1976, at the age of 13, when I started working evenings and weekends in the butchery department at Westlake’s in Liskeard. It was there that I first began learning the trade from some of the very best butchers of that time, gaining a strong foundation in the traditional methods of butchery.

At 17, I was fortunate to secure a position at Tideford, working for Mr Terry Condon. Mr Condon was extremely good to me and taught me many years of experience. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to learn from him and to develop my skills further under his guidance.

In 2001, Mr Phillip Warren purchased the premises from Mr Condon and introduced significant changes to the business. During that time, I continued to learn new approaches to butchery, which I embraced and enjoyed. Then, in 2003, I was given the opportunity to buy the business from Phillip and become the owner of my own butchers. It was a decision I have never looked back from.

Having now dedicated more than 50 years to the trade, I have poured my experience, knowledge, and passion into training the next generation of butchers, especially my son, who will carry this wonderful business forward. He brings fresh ideas, energy, and ambition, helping to take the business into the 21st century and beyond.

I truly believe the business is now the best it has ever been, combining decades of knowledge with the enthusiasm and innovation of the younger team. We are proud to butcher only the highest-quality meat, sourced from trusted local suppliers, with free-range animals grazing on the beautiful Cornish land. In my view, you simply cannot beat it.
